HOME SCHOOL ASSOCIATION - 'Helping our School to help our Children'

Churchtown Home School Association (CHSA) was established in 1989 to encourage the link between home and school. All parents are welcome to join as members at our Annual General Meeting, which is held in September. There is a hard working team of 28 members: which includes a Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. The Headteacher is the President to the CHSA and actively encourages this important link.

The CHSA meets approximately 9 times a year to organise the fund raising events. Some of our larger annual events require a considerable number of parents to assist the Committee to enable them to run smoothly. These parents have volunteered to be on our helper list, which is held by our Secretary. Parental support is vital to the life of this very popular school and for helping children to feel at home and happy in their learning environment.

The most popular fund-raising events are for all the family, with the Christmas and Summer Fairs being particularly well supported. Throughout the year other events are held; Easter Bingo, Breakfast with Santa, bi-annual Treasure Hunt, Monster Mash Party and children’s summer and Christmas Discos for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. For our younger children we fund an entertainer for their Christmas Party.

Since it’s foundation, the CHSA, with parental help, has raised a considerable amount of money. The Committee along with the President have purchased many items of equipment for the school such as: interactive whiteboards, computers, mobile ovens for classroom needs, items such as hamsters and creative stationery etc. have been chosen by the children.

The Association agreed to help with the Arts Festival which will take place in June this year. At the end of last term children from the School Council visited a local book supplier to enrich our reading scheme with funds of £2,500. The second substantial donation of £2,500 was given to purchase a second laptop trolley for use in Year 3 and 4.
