Year 5 Football Success

Year 5 won all four matches to win a mini 6-a-side tournament at Merchant Taylors'.

Our year 5 footballers were invited to Merchant Taylors' to take part in a tournament involving Trinity St Peter's and the hosts.

Despite the team not being a regular squad, the boys settled straight into their new formation and started the first match against Trinity extremely strongly. It wasn't long before Oskar scored the first goal of the tournament. Harry made some vital saves to contribute to the excellent result of only conceding a single goal across all four matches. Nile's dependability as our sole defender, allowed us to play our three midfielders of Harry, Thomas and Oskar in positions that gave us both excellent possession and goal scoring opportunities. Luke and Ben both gave their defences a difficult time and supported our midfielders going forward.

It was a fantastic result for the boys and well-deserved. The work rate, discipline and skill were fantastic throughout the tournament, but the boys attitude also deserves a special mention. They listened to all of our instructions and conducted themselves extremely well both on and off the pitch. It is difficult to get the right balance of all the emotions when trying to win a competition, but they were confident and hard working without gloating, and they were respectful of other players, staff and Merchant Taylors'.

We think that they enjoyed themselves too!

Well done boys!
