International Day for Persons with Disabilities

On Monday 5th December, pupils all around the school discussed inclusion and the importance of respecting difference.

As well as Circle Time and activities within the classroom that raised awareness for people with disabilities,  every year group adapted their PE lessons to teach an activity that clearly demonstrated inclusion. Children volunteered to participate in activities with a particular impairment, causing their peers and staff to consider how they could adapt the activity so that it was fair for all.

Although every PE lesson at Churchtown Primary is inclusive, some of the lessons for this week in particular allowed children to try different sports and gave the children some new experiences! It also enabled the children to revisit their class discussions about Mindsets and the attitudes of Olympians and Paralympians.
