Exploring Our Future and Academies!

Exploring Our Future and Academies!

Dear Parents & Carers,

Churchtown Primary School – exploring our future and Academies!

At a time of significant change within the country and in education, we have been concerned about the local authorities control and future direction of our school. The government is not funding local councils in the way it has done in the past and its services to schools are becoming increasingly diminished. Sefton Council is having to find a further £64 million in cuts over the next three years and we are very worried about this impact on our children’s education. In addition, the proposed new national funding formula for schools could reduce our annual budget at Churchtown by up to £80,000. There are also an increasing number of primary schools across Sefton that are converting to become academies, all of these factors leave us in an increasingly isolated and vulnerable position.

The Governing Board have given careful consideration to this and what this may mean for our future and how with this background we can ensure we continue to offer the very best for our children and the local community. We have made the decision that academy conversion is the way forward and therefore have been considering the options we have, speaking to leaders from several local and regional academy trusts. During our consideration we have identified a potential partner for the school, the Endeavour Learning Trust. The Governing Board believes that this would be a positive step in the future of the school by linking us closely to like-minded schools who share our commitment to securing the best outcomes for our children allowing us to take more control over our school, whilst also benefiting from collaboration with a Trust.

We understand how important this decision is and reassure you that we continue to explore the future for Churchtown and will keep you informed as to the progress and a formal decision, at which point there will be a formal consultation with parents, carers and staff.  If you have any comments or suggestions in the meantime please contact the Governing Board at

Yours sincerely
