On Monday 16th April, Year 5 took a step back in time for a special 'Victorian Day' in school where they gained first-hand experience of what it was like to be a child in school during this period!
The children and teachers came dressed for the occasion and played the role of Victorian children excellently. After paying for their education, they were registered with their Victorian names and sat down for lessons on the 3 Rs (Reading, wRiting, aRithmetic). Throughout the day, they had to stand and recite facts, perform a drill, pactise their penmanship and many more activities that involved real Victorian equipment. A favourite of the day was the technical drawing for the boys and needle work for the girls. They even experienced a Victorian playtime! Despite learning under much stricter conditions, the children and the teachers had an excellent and memorable day.
