A-Team Win The Double!
After finishing the league as joint winners, the A-Team won the Laurie Parr final to end a highly successful year of football.
By the time the A-Team had reached the regional finals in the Premier League earlier in the year, we knew that we had not only had a talented team, but one with an excellent attitude and we were optimistic for more success. That success continued with an unbeaten run in the Southport Schools league that lasted the whole season and led to us becoming joint winners of the league.
After an unlucky defeat in the Duddy Shield we were determined to progress further in the Laurie Parr cup and on 13th June we came up against a frequent finalist rival: Farnborough.
We started well, and were unfortunate to concede first, but we quickly equalized and were feeling positive at the end of the first third. The second third proved a similar story, going 2-1 down, before we came back again. After that we came into our own. There were some beautiful individual pieces of skill but every single member of the team played a vital role, from one end to the other. I was particularly impressed by the fact that everyone played in the position I'd asked them to, even when it wasn't their preferred role, for the benefit of the team, and gave 100% for the entire match, covering each other when needed and supporting their team mates during disappointing moments. It ended 5-3 to Churchtown, and became our first outright win of the Laurie Parr cup.
It has been a pleasure to manage you all this year. Thank you for having such a brilliant attitude, great teamwork and showing us some fantastic football. Congratulations on this and many other brilliant wins this season!
