Road to Rio 2016
During the Summer term we are starting our very own project called ‘Walk to Rio’ to celebrate the Rio Olympics. Many year groups will be using 'Rio' as their theme, especially in the last half term. As a school we have decided to collaboratively walk the distance to Rio, this will be recorded and displayed on a display board on the main school corridor. Each child will be asked to walk approximately 6 miles and this will be completed in variuos fun ways over the summer term. This week, some classes have walked a mile around the school field to start the project.
The project will run up to the end of the school year and will be celebrated during Sports week with a Rio Carnival of our very own. The project is going to encourage classes to walk together and Mr Bateman is going to be taking various groups of children and staff members to walk around different locations in Southport.
Homework has been set for the children over the Spring Break to carry out walks with their family and friends, encouraging families to be active, keeping our bodies and minds healthy. These totals will also be recorded on the school display board, showing us getting closer to Rio for the Olympics.
Below is a power point which Miss Lucas and the sports ambassadors shared with all children in assembly this week.
